Off the Eaten Path

Pita, Pita

Alma Pita, just west of Wilson and Magnolia in Uptown, does it every flippin time. We’ve gone here a few times now, and it’s pretty consistently delicious. Alma Pita serves up a variety of Middle East food — from kabobs to pitas (or course) to gyros and curries — and it’s always fresh and well seasoned.

Lois loves the chicken kabob, which comes with rice, vegetable stew, salad and pita bread.  The marinated chicken is amazing – tender and full of flavor without being overwhelming and the rice soaks up the extra marinade, which makes it tasty in its own right. The salad is perfect — cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions on a bed of crisp lettuce topped with a light dressing.  And what can we say about the pita?  Lois wishes they would give us a whole basket of them instead of just a half slice or two — eat ‘em plain or stuff your kabob and salad fixings in them, they’re great.

Clark prefers the Shish Kabob. There is just something about the marinated grilled beef, that makes it excellent to stuff in a pita with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and top with steaming hot rice. Maybe its because the hunks of beef are so tender and juicy, and still have grill marks on them. Who knows.

The best part about Alma Pita is that we know we can always dine or get takeout from here (except sundays when they are closed) and eat extremely well for less than $20. Oh yeah, they also have bottled Jarritos. Score!
